After an extensive period of playing their first 18 games on the road, the team, currently ranked 11th nationally, showcased their formidable skill at the recent Hokie Invite. Though this event took place in Salem rather than their usual home ground in Blacksburg, the Hokies delivered a flawless 5-0 weekend, culminating in a decisive 11-1 victory against Bryant. This dominant run has significantly enhanced their season record, demonstrating their resilience and strength both at home and away.
Key players demonstrated exceptional offensive power, contributing significantly to the team’s recent successes. During the crucial game, Emma Mazzarone and Jordan Bishop initiated the scoring with home runs in the second inning, marking Bishop's first career homer. Jordan Lynch also added to the tally with her sixth home run of the season. Bishop, Gaby Mizelle, Lynch, and Michelle Chatfield each drove in two runs. On the pitching front, Avery Layton started, followed by Addyson Fisher, who earned her second win of the season, with Cassie Grizzard closing out the game. The Hokies' successful weekend also included victories over Michigan (5-3), James Madison (7-0), Penn State (7-6), and Radford (8-2).
